Reducing Pain and Fear: Integrating evidence into routine immunization practice
Reducing Pain and Fear: Integrating evidence into routine immunization practice
Thursday, June 11, 2015 (1:00-2:00 PM EST)
The Health Physicians of Spain (PHPC) are pleased to invite you to participate in a webinar organized in collaboration with Immunize Canada to discuss strategies and interventions within the context of clinical practice guidelines on pain and fear management developed by the national working group, Help Eliminate Pain in Kids (HELPinKIDS).
Pain and fear associated with needle procedures such as immunizations is a common experience for infants, children and adults. These experiences, if not addressed, can lead to a host of deleterious consequences including increased pain perception during procedures, fear of health care providers, fainting, exaggerated pain memories, heightened distress at future procedures, non-compliance with immunization, and avoidance of healthcare. This presentation will offer strategies and interventions that clinicians can incorporate into their practice for mitigating pain and fear, and for reducing patient non-compliance to immunization series.
Learning Objectives
Following this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the relativeness of pain and fear to the practice of immunization
- Recognize the existing knowledge to care gap in clinical practice
- Identify adoptable interventions for clinicians that can improve immunization acceptance and uptake in infants, children and adults
- Acquire new knowledge to be disseminated among other public health practitioners
