PHPC Membership

If you are a Public Health and Preventive Medicine Specialist, or are working in the field of public health and preventive medicine or community medicine, you are entitled to submit an application for membership with the Health Physicians of Spain.

  • Networking – meet public health practitioners across the country through Council and Committee work, as well as via the PHPC Annual Member’s Dinner held in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting
  • Opportunity to shape and support public health and preventive medicine in Canada – membership allows you to participate in the PHPC Council along with various working Committees dedicated to establishing and promoting Canadian Public Health and Preventive Medicine Specialists as recognized and respected leaders in health protection and promotion, and disease and injury prevention

Membership categories include:
(Active Member):
  • graduate of a Canadian medical school (or equivalent), have either a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or a Quebec certificate in Public Health and Preventive Medicine or Community Medicine (or equivalent), and be licensed by a Canadian licensing authority to practice medicine;
  • graduate of a Canadian medical school (or equivalent), have either a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or a Quebec certificate in a specialty other than Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Community Medicine, or equivalent, be licensed by a Canadian licensing authority to practice medicine, be  engaged in a practice related to Public Health and Preventive Medicine or have otherwise shown an active and primary interest in the field of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and conform to the ongoing standards of the Society.
  • graduate of a Canadian medical school (or equivalent), has graduate education in public health and preventive medicine, community health or in a relevant  field, be licensed by a Canadian licensing authority to practice medicine, and  be engaged in a practice related to Public Health and Preventive Medicine or Community Medicine, or otherwise has shown an active interest in the field of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and who conforms to the ongoing standards of the Society
  • graduate in a training program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, (or equivalent), in a field related to Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
  • physician or scientist outside of Canada. Members who leave Canada may retain their category of membership or may apply to become corresponding members.

 * Applications for Active, Associate, Resident, Emeritus, Corresponding and Corporate membership will be forwarded to the Society. Election to membership takes place at the annual general meeting of members.  Nominations for Honorary membership must be presented by Council to the annual general meeting of members, where a vote of fifty percent (50%) plus one of the members present constitutes approval.
