Mission

To establish and promote Canadian Public Health and Preventive Medicine Specialists as recognized and respected leaders in health protection and promotion, and disease and injury prevention.

Objectives  

• Promote population health by supporting high standards for training and education in Public Health and Preventive Medicine,
• promote the inclusion of a population and public health perspective in the development and implementation of health policy and the provision of health services at the local, provincial, territorial, and national levels,
• promote the role of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialist in the Canadian health system,
• promote, at the national level, the role of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialist to the public, other health providers, governments and national organizations,
• promote the educational and scientific advancement of the broad discipline of Public Health and Preventive Medicine,
• provide a liaison among Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialists and post-graduate trainees and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada on issues such as training requirements and maintenance of certification for Public Health and Preventive Medicine,
• increase the knowledge, skills and attitudes of Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialists, promote their continuing professional competence and provide leadership in developing continuing professional development initiatives for Public Health and Preventive Medicine practitioners, particularly through the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada's Maintenance of Certification Program, and
• provide liaison and communication functions with other organizations at the national level, such as the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Public Health Association, the Canadian Society for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, provincial and territorial organizations that may include Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialists, and the federal government.
